London : Michael Fallon , the United Kingdom’s Secretary of state for Defence quit on Wednesday, November 1, after sexual harassement allegations against him. Fallon resigned as defence  secretary , admitting his behavior towards women in the past may have ‘fallen short. However, Michael Fallon is the first politician to hav quit following highly publicized allegations of sexual abuse in Parliament.

In his resignation letter written to Prime Minister Theresa May, Fallon said, A number of allegations have surfaced about MPs in recent days, including some about my previous conduct. Many of these have been false but I have fallen below the high standards that we require of the armed forces that I have the honour to represent.’’

‘’I have reflected on my position and I am therefore resigning as Defence Secretary he said, and  also adding that he would continue as a member of parliament’’.

Earlier this week, Fallon had apologized over a 2002 incident in which he had made advances to the journalist Julia Hartley-Brewer by repeatedly placing his hand on her knee. However, she said that no one was remotely upset or distressed.

Brewer also said that she did not think Fallon resignation was solely based on the incident that had happened 15 years ago. “I doubt very much it’s because of my knee and if it is I think that’s really mad and absurd and crazy, she said, adding, “I’m assuming there are more allegations to come.”

When asked if he was worried about more allegations lurking in the corners only to come out later, Fallon, without responding directly, told BBC that the culture has changed over the years. “What might have been acceptable 15, 10 years ago is clearly not acceptable now,” Fallon said.

However, Fallon’s friends suggested that there may have been more such incidents.
