BENGALURU: Tension prevailed at Vidhana Soudha when a 55 – year-old man attempted to kill himself by consuming pesticide while the chief minister was addressing Kanakadasa Jayanthi event on the dais on Monday. Police personnel foiled the suicide bid and the man was rushed to Bowring hospital. The man identified as Parashuram, a native of Mysuru, had come to the event around 8am. When Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was addressing the event, he ran in front of the dais and tried to consume pesticide which he was carrying in his pocket.

Two policemen caught him and he was taken out of the premises. G Shankarachar, police inspector from Vidhana Soudha, said parashuram had come alone to the function and he took out the pesticide bottle at 8.30 am. He told us he had written KPSC exams in 1993 and his answer paper was misplaced by KPSC. This led to his result being withheld. In 1996 , he applied to KPSC for compensation but he has not received any till date. Shankarachar said , “Parashuram said that he had attempted suicide thrice earlier.

Twice before the chief minister in two separate incidents in  the city and once before minister K J George. He was shouting that the CM can identify him as they have met before. He does not have a job and we will arrest him for attempting suicide.”

Shankarachar added, “ I  do not Know why the Policemen did not check him before allowing him at the function. Senior officers have to find out how he managed to carry pesticide with him.” The medical officer at Bowring said, “Parashuram was given first aid. He has been admitted for a one-day treatment to monitor his condition as it is a medico legal case.”
