Sabarimala : On Sunday, a 31- year –old woman tried to enter Kerala’s Sabarimala temple. Women devotees between the age group of 10-50 are not allowed to enter the temple. According to Sources, the woman , a resident of West Godavari district in Telengana, was detained by police at Sannidhanam, the temple complex.
The woman was not an activist who tried to rebel against the custom of not allowing women to enter Sabarimala. She was questioned and her statement recorded, police said. The woman, Parvathy was not carrying the traditional "irumudi" -- a small bundle containing coconut, ghee, turmeric and sandal paste offered to the deity – either and the police also said she took a different route to get to the temple complex called the Sannidhanam. The woman, who was accompanied by her husband, two children and 11 other people from her village, told police that she was unaware of the restrictions with regard to women of the banned age group at the shrine.
Similarly , another incident had also happened, a 15-year–old girl dresses as a boy has been detained by temple authorities while making an attempt to visit the sabarimala.The girl who was part of the a 15 –member pilgrim group from Nellore District of Andhrapradesh was prevented by a women squad of the Travancore Devaswom Board at Pamba reaching the sannidhanam, temple sources said today. Following this , entries in temple has strictly taken by devaswom board authorities and police officials.
