In an emotional new tweet, Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan has spoken out in defence of Deepika Padukone’s upcoming new film Padmavati and said that the actress’s head must be respected more than her body. Earlier, members of the Karni Sena had announced a bounty on Deepika and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s heads and even threatened to chop off the actress’s nose in protest of the film.
Slamming the threats made against Deepika, Kamal Haasan wrote, “I want Ms.Deepika's head.. saved. Respect it more than her body. Even more her freedom. Do not deny her that. Many communities have apposed my films. Extremism in any debate is deplorable. Wake up cerebral India. Time to think. We've said enough. Listen Ma Bharat” Earlier, actress Twinkle Khanna had also tweeted in favour of the film and called these threats “loony”.
Twinkle had written, “And as far as #Padmavati is concerned I wish it is the biggest hit ever as that would be the befitting rejoinder to all these loony threats!” According to latest reports, the release of Padmavati had been deferred to a later date and the film will not be hitting theatres on December 1.West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also tweeted in favour of the film’s release by saying, “The #Padmavati controversy is not only unfortunate but also a calculated plan of a political party to destroy the freedom to express ourselves. We condemn this super emergency. All in the film industry must come together and protest in one voice.”
