Russian Quake estimated at 7.8 magnitude

Moscow : The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center on Monday evening informed that a magnitude 7.8 earthquake had occurred off the coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. The epicenter is reported to have been 234 km of Nikol’Skoye, Russia, among the Komandorski islands of the Bering Strait. Initial reports say that the quake happened at a shallow depth of about 10km and was reported to be in a magnitude of 7.4 but later confirmed it was 7.8 in strength. The effected region is sparsely populated which prompted the automated threat analysis system to report a green level of threat - indicating low human impact.
