Thiruvananthapuram: Around 300 prepaid autorickshaw drivers at the Railway Station in Thampanoor are set to go on an indefinite strike starting today in protest to the new rule from the railways which demands a parking fee of Rs 10 from all the parked autorickshaw drivers.
Speaking about their predicament the drivers said “This is a public property and all of us here are serving the public with our rickshaws. We are already struggling to make at least Rs 500-600 profits per day. Why are they trying to take away from our meager savings? They will start with Rs 10 and then keep on increasing it. Also, we don’t remain parked here for long. So the parking fee is unfair”. There have also been uproars by the drivers on the decline of passengers due to the shifting of stand from in front of the Railway Station to a side, last year. The railways have called a meeting to discuss the matter with selected autorickshaw drivers today.
