Sri Lanka, to convert garbage dumps into urban parks. Next year, as part of  city beautification programme, Srilanka is planning to convert two big garbage dumbs into urban parks. Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka said, on Tuesday in the Colombo City Beautification Awards Ceremony, that  garbages could no longer be dumped at the Meethotamulla or Bloemendhal garbage mountains as there is a plan to construct a large scale national landfill site in Aruwakkaluwa in Puttalam, to address the government's garbage disposal issue. Minister also added that  they will make sure that no harm is caused to the environment when constructing the Aruwakkaluwa sanitary landfill. Meethotamulla Garbage mountain, presently face about 800 tones of solid waste daily.
