Thiruvananthapuram : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday informed the Assembly that the State government will not order a CBI probe into Youth Congress activist Shuhaib’s murder at Edayannur near Mattannur. The Opposition members boycotted the Assembly in protest against the chief minister’s stand on the issue. Stating that all the accused will be nabbed within one week, the Chief minister said that the police probe in the police probe in the case is satisfactory.
“The police will take action no matter who the accused are. The contention that those nabbed are ‘dummy accused are. The contention that those nabbed are’ dummy accused is baseless. An impartial investigation is being conducted in the case,” the chief minister said in reply to the emergency motion moved by MLA Sunny Joseph in the Assembly.
“As soon as the government came to know of shuhaib’s murder, it asked the police to take action against the culprits no matter who they are. A special team led by Kannur Range IG was formed to conduct the probe. Four persons were arrested also. The special team was formed after considering the Opposition’s demand too. There is no need to invoke UAPA on the accused. A CBI probe into the case is not needed,” the chief minister said.
Responding to the chief minister’s announcement that there is no need for a CBI probe in Shuhaib murder case, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the CM’s decision is anti- democratic. The chief minister has adopted this stand to protect someone, Chennithala alleged.
