Transgender Bill Passed in Pakistan

Pakistan : A legislation has been introduced in Pakistan to protect the fundamental rights of transgender people. The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill is the first piece of proposed legislation that extends recognition to this often-ignored segment of society. It was moved by Naeema Kishwar who seeks to provide equal rights to transgender persons. The bill states that “the transgender persons constitute one of the most marginalised and disadvantaged communities in the country. They face problems ranging from social exclusion to discrimination, lake of protection in their family, community and the society”.
