Thiruvananthapuram : The discussion between United Nurses Association (UNA) and the labour commissioner ended without any results. Another discussion will be held on Tuesday.

About 62,000 nurses from the private hospitals across that state would protest by taking leave for indefinite period alleging that the stance taken by the state government is in favour of the private hospital managements. The UNA announced a strike for indefinite period from March 5th in protest against the management not giving them a salary hike. This was followed by the UNA taking a decision for the nurses to go on leave for indefinite period of time from March 6.

The UNA has decided to only cooperate with those hospitals that give a salary of Rs. 20, 000 per month as decided by the government. The government had fixed the minimum salary of the nurses to be Rs.20, 000 per month on February 10, following a protest by the nurses but many of the private hospitals did not comply by this.
