Kochi : Breaking his silence on DMRC’s decision to withdraw the multi-crore Light Metro projects in Kerala, DMRC Principal Adviser E Sreedharan today said the lack of interest shown by the state government has compelled the Corporation to back off from the projects.
Addressing a press conference here, Sreedharan said the DMRC is withdrawing from the projects with “ great dismay and reluctance”. The project offices at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode will be closed down shortly.
The DMRC setup the project offices at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode in 2014 itself and is presently incurring a monthly expenditure of Rs 16 lakh. He said the DMRC will not be able to continue incurring this expenditure in the absence of the preparatory works being taken up.
Sreedharan said since the DMRC found no initiative or interest from the part of the state government for obtaining the Government of India’s sanction for the two projects if the two agreements for the preparatory works are not signed by February 15.
