Teachers offensive remarks on Girl Students; Students stage watermelon march to Farook college

Ramanattukara: Protesting against the distasteful remarks on the dressing style of girl students made by a professor, a girl students under SFI Kozhikode district committee led a symbolic protest march called ‘Watermelon march’ to the Farook College on Monday. KSU and ABVP also staged protest march demanding action against the teacher who made the controversial speech.

Students under various unions staged protests in the college alleging anti- student action of the teachers. The campus turned violent after teachers and non –teaching staff beat up the students who celebrated holi in the campus. The controversial speech made by a professor  in the college went viral on  social media and added fuel to the fire.

Jauhar Munnavir, a professor at the Farook Training College made a derogatory remark about girl students  for not wearing their hijabs properly. He said that girl students are exposing their bosom and compared it to a sliced watermelon.The speech triggered controversy after it went viral on social media. The students  have filed a complaint against the professor in the university. Meanwhile, Farook College management declared that they would not take action against the professor as he made the speech outside the campus. Police force, including Pink Police, was camping in the college due to the chances of conflict between students and teachers.

Students also staged a protest by celebrating holi on the campus to protest against the teachers who beat up students for celebrationg holi in connection with the conclusion of their exams. KSU Staged a hunger strike demanding action against the teachers. Meanwhile, a group of students opposed the protest march led by ABVP and SFI. They alleged that both unions are misusing the row between students and teachers in the college.
