Thiruvananthapuram : PWD minister G Sudhakaran today criticized the ongoing protest against construction of a bypass at Keezhatoor. Addressing the assembly, he alleged that the people who are protesting against the proposed bypass construction through a paddy field are not innocent like birds of the field (Vayal Kilikal) but they are vultures in the field. Those protesting in Keezhatoor comprise senior CPM leaders and they been ousted from the party. If the party does not even endorse those who are ready to give their lives for the party, then what good is the development for, asked Congress leader V D Satheesan. Opposition also stongly protested against setting fire to the protest pandal and asked if the police duty is to stand guard to this atrocity.
“Some people have compared Keezhattoor with Nandigram. We have no plans to make police to fire at protestor like Nandigram. People who have never visited a paddy field so far in their life are now joined in the protest,” criticized PWD minister. Meanwhile Taliparamba MLA James Mathew said that 56 families in Keezhattoor are ready to give land for NH development.
“Only four families are against the project. Government should not take a stand to support them,” he added. In the assembly, PWD Minister stated that National Highway Development Authority has informed the department that no change would be applicable in the alignment of the NH construction.
