Govt to Shut down unauthorised unaided schools in state.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state education department has issued notice to unauthorised unaided schools in the state to close down immediately. Addressing the assembly on Wednesday, Education minister C Raveendranath announced the action taken against the unaided schools.

“The department has issued notice to close down unaided schools as directed by the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Notice was issued to 1585 schools in the state,” said Education minister. He was responding to the adjournment motion moved by KN Khader. He pointed out that government schools are situated almost at walking distance from home in most places. But still private institutions are illegally established in the state, he noted.

“Some schools have got a stay order from the court against the government action to close down schools. The action was taken based on the right to education act,” added the minister .In the assembly, K U Khader moved an adjournment action motion demanding a discussion on the consequences from closing down unaided schools. He pointed out that it will affect the future of over three lakh students and leave 25,000 teachers jobless. The Opposition also demanded that the assembly be adjourned to discuss the matter. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala wanted the government to give two years’ time to get accreditation.

The speaker refused to give permission for the adjournment motion in the assembly after education minister responded to the matter.
