The International happiness Day is observed on March 20. Travellers flying into Dubai were greeted by friendly faces in their passports as well as in person.
A smiley face in red colour read “Welcome to the Happy UAE” in both Arabic and English. Date, March 20, was also inscribed on the right-hand corner of the passport. Apart from giving a smiley on paper, officers sported friendly cartoon masks,gloves and a classic goatee wished the travelers and clicked pictures too.
Metro commuters were caught unawares as Dubai Metro gave away surprise gifts at several stations. The Roads and Transport authority (RTA) too celebrated the spirit of International Day of Happiness and the Happiness Week and organized various activities which included surprise gifts to commuters, free happiness bus rides from several Metro stations like the Mall of the Emirates, Burjman, Union Square, Al Ras, Al Rashidiya, Dubai Mall, JLT and Al Jaffaliya.
Buses plied from 8am to 4:30pm from different locations. Meanwhile, at least 100 lucky passengers at the Dubai Airport got free taxi rides throughout the day. The day which was created by a special adviser to the United Nations named Jayme Illien was first celebrated on March 20,2013.
