Kannur: Vayalkili protest leader Suresh Keezhatoor said that the government would be given sufficient time to resolve the ongoing issues on construction of a bypass road through paddy fields in Keezhatoor area in Kannur district. A definite time frame would be given to the government to find a solution to the issue. Within the given timeframe if the government comes forward to resolve the issue then Vayalkili would offer all support. But if fails to adhere to the request, then they would think of taking up a long march, said Suresh Keezhattoor. The support of other like- minded peaceful fronts will be sought and none have hijacked the Vayalkili protest march, Suresh said. The keezhattoor protest is similar to the Aranmula one where the CPM and the RSS have unitedly conducted a stir which the Kerala people have not forgotten, Suresh said.Yesterday, the CPI(M) district committee had taken out a march to protest against the decision of the state government to go ahead with the road project. The agitation has taken a political turn as most of the participants were former CPI (M) workers, who were expelled from the party for taking part in the stir.
Though the outfit ‘Vayalkilikal’ had been on a warpath for the past three months , the agitation came into focus after a group of persons, stated to be CPI-M activists, set fire to a temporary shed of the protestors on March 14, the day a team of officials of the National Highway Authority of India had arrived in the area for surveying.
