Kannur, Karuna Case: Supreme Court asks state to expel 180 Students

Delhi : In a major setback to the state government, the Supreme Court  today cancelled the admissions made to the Karuna and Kannur medical colleges. The court asked the government to expel 180 students who got admissions to the colleges.

The apex court also observed that the Medical college admission regularization bill passed unanimously by the ruling and the opposition parties in the Assembly on Wednesday was against the law.  It also stayed the ordinance issued by the government in connection with the admissions to Karuna and Kannur Medical Colleges.

Observing that the admissions were made violating law, the apex court ordered to cancel the admissions of 150 students at the Kannur Medical College and 30 students at the Karuna Medical college. The Court made it clear that the student must not be allowed to write the exams. Stating its disapproval on the  government’s unclear answers court said that Governor never approved the bill and hence it is still an ordinance. It also observed that the Legislative  Asse,bly cannot overrule the court orders.
