Dalit organizations call for state - wide hartal on Monday

Kottayam :  A joint Committee of Dalit organizations have called for a dawn – to- dusk hartal in the state on April 9 (Monday) demanding a probe by a sitting judge over the incident of shooting  of Dalits who participated in the Bharat Bandh and to register a murder case against the wrongdoers. The organizations also raised the demand that the government should give a compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to the kin of  those killed in the violence and enact a law  for the restoration of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The hartal has been called  by the Cherama Sambhava Development Society, Akhila Kerala Cheramar Hindu Mahasabha , Kerala Cherama Sangham and Social Liberation Front.  Essential services like milk, newspapers, hospital and medical shop have been exempted from the hartal, the leaders of the organizations said.
