Thiruvananthapuram : Traffic was disrupted widely across the state as part of the hartal called by Dalit organizations. The Dalit organization activists laid siege to road at Thampanoor in Thiruvananthapuram.
Violence was reported from many places in the southern districts of Kerala as part of the hartal. However, hartal is seemingly peaceful in the northern districts . Police arrested Aadivasi Gothra Mahasabha leader Geethanandan and 15 others for allegedly blocking vehicles at Kochi. “The report that we have got from across the state is that by and large the protest appears to have become a success. There is no reason for taking us into custody.” Geetanandan told the media.The hartal supports blockaded the KSRTC bus station in Thiruvananthapuram. Police later took them into custody and KSRTC service resumed.
The attempt to shut down the shops in Chala of Thiruvananthapuram led to clashes. The passengers were dislodged from bus in manacaud here . A group of Dalit activists took out a march to the Secretariat and staged a ‘Dharna’. The opposition Congress – led UDF has extended support to the hartal.
