This year, in the 65th National Awards, South cinema has dominated the scene. The Mollywood Indutry bagged 11 Awards including the Best Director Award. The mollywood movies that got National Attention are Thondimuthalum Driksaakhiyum, Bhayaanakam and Take Off. Director Jayaraj who helmed the project won the Award in the Best Director category. Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is a dark comedy directed by Dileesh Pothan released in June2017. The film is about couple and their struggles as they cope with their new life. To make matter worse, they end up being robbed of something they were planning to tell and get money. The movie on its release opened to positive reviews. The movie starred Fahadh Faasil. Nimisha Sajayan in the lead. The film won in the Original Screeplay Category done by Sajeev Pazhoor, and Best Regional film in Malayalam. Take off is based on the 2014 event where Indian nurses were trapped in Iraq, at the time of the ISIS crisis. The film starred Parvathy, Kunchacko Goban, Fahadh Fasil in crucial roles. The movie on its release opened to rave reviews. Parvathy won the Kerala State awrad for this film and now as per the latest she won a National Award in the special mention Category.

Reportedly the film talks of the youth who joined the British Army to fight in the World War II. The film centers around a postman and his wife. The Movie also got the Award for Best Cinematography through Nikhil S Praveen. Aalorukkam got the Award for best Social relevant Movie.
