Governor strikes off name of CPM leader, Adv. A A Rashid

Thiruvananthapuram: Governor P Sathasivam has removed the name of CPM leader and former Kerala University Syndicate member, Adv. A A Rashid from the panel of right to information commissioners.

The panel was prepared by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Minister A K Balan and the opposition leader Ramesh Chennitthala. But Ramesh Chennithala had earlier expressed his disapproval of the appointment of Adv. Rashid.

Earlier, Kerala State Higher Education Council Convenor, R S Sasikumar had submitted a complaint with the Governor against his appointment, who is accused in a corruption case.

However, the Governor accepted the appointments of the other four members, CPM affiliated teachers’ association leader K L Vivekanandan, press secretary to former chief minister V S Achuthanandan, K V Sudhakaran, Additional Secretary of law P R Sreelatha and former Titanium MD, Somanatha Pillai.

Advocate A A Rashid is an accused in the vigilance case relating to discrepancy in appointment of Kerala University Assistant. He is also a political leader who contested the last assembly elections. The case filed against Rashid , according to an order by the Kerala Lok Ayuktha in connection with the appointment of University Assistant is still on. The case is being reinvestigated by the crime branch.
