According to Reports, the death toll due to floods in the state of Kerala rose to 44 on Wednesday. India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday, 15 August issued red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in most places for Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasargode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Idukki and Ernakulam Districts till Thursday. The Kochi airport will also remain shut till 18 August.
Over Rs 320 crore has been released by the Centre to the Kerala government as calamity relief fund during 2018-2019, the Home Ministry said on Monday, 13 August. The allocation of the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) for 2018-19 was Rs 214 crore, of which the central government's share was Rs 160.50 crore and the state government's share was Rs 53.50 crore. The central government supplements the effort of the Kerala government by providing assistance for relief of immediate nature through the SDRF and the National Disaster Response Fund.
