India set to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary

Jaipur: India is all set to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi, a political ethicist who employed non-violent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India’s Independence from British rule was born on October 2, 1869. Fondly remembered as the Father of the Nation, he is known to have inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, October 2, is not only commemorated in India as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, but is celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Non-violence. To mark this historic occasion, Gandhi Saptah will celebrated across the state from 2nd to 9th October to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation. The chief guest of the inaugural ceremony will be Honorable Chile Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot. He will also address the events of 2nd October as Chief Guest. Department of Art and Culture & Department of Tourism along with other departments scheduled the week long celebrations at State, district and block level to spread the teachings and beliefs of Gandhi.

Seminars and panel discussions, Gandhi expo, Khadi mela and pradarshini, bhajan sandhya are scheduled to happen in Jaipur and are free for public to attend. Entry to heritage show and theatre is by invite only. Gandhi Pradarshini and Khadi Mela to be held from 2nd October to 9th October at Jawahar Kala Kendra, shilp gram where more than 500 artisans and a large number of women artisans from Rajasthan will participate and display products for visitors.mahatma gandhi

Events on 3rd October, workshop of women self-help group, Khadi Sanghoshthi, Theatre-Bharat Bhagya Vihata will be held at Birla Auditorium. Cultural programmes will be organized on the evening of 2nd, 3rd, 4th October. On 2nd October, Bhajan Sandhya and Sarod Vadan will be held at central park. Gandhi heritage show organized by Prasad Bidapa who is world famous fashion stylish and fashion consultant will be presented on 3rd October. On 4th October, Shrimad Rajchandra Mission will perform live on stage to present the character of Mahatma Gandhi with play- Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. Bhakti Utsav organized by Seher Sansthan will held from 4th October to 6th October. The prime objective of this unique week-long celebration is to connect with the citizens of every age, especially youth to make them understand the relevance of Gandhi in contemporary times.
