Washington: NASA next mission to Mars which is expected to be next year will focus on examining the deep interior of the planet. The mission will be based on the information gathered by the Insight. The mission will place a stationary lander near Mars equator and will make use of two instruments namely, a seismometer, which is fine enough to detect ground movements half the diameter of a hydrogen atom and will also record seismic waves from ‘marsquakes’. The other instrument is a heat probe, designed to hammer itself to a depth of three metres or more and measure the amount of energy coming from the planet deep interior. “Because the interior of Mars has churned much less than Earth in the past three billion years, Mars likely preserves evidence about rocky planets infancy better than our home planet does, said InSight Principal Investigator Bruce Banerdt of NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California.
