Biggest one-day jump in COVID-19 cases recorded in Kerala for 2nd day in a row

As many as 62 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kerala in last 24 hours, marking the biggest one-day jump so far and taking the total number of cases to 794. Kerala had reported the previous highest single-day rise (42 cases) yesterday. The coronavirus death toll in Kerala stands at 4. Out of the total cases, 275 cases are active.

Tamil Nadu has recorded 759 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases there to 15,512, said the state's health department on Saturday. Tamil Nadu's coronavirus death toll rose to 103 after five more people died of the virus in last 24 hours. Tamil Nadu now has 7,915 active coronavirus cases, said the department.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Karnataka has risen to 1,959 after it reported the highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases with 216 people testing positive in the last 24 hours. A total of 608 people have been discharged, while 42 others have died of the virus in Karnataka. Out of 216 new cases, 72 were reported in Yadagiri.

Sikkim on Saturday reported its first coronavirus case after a 25-year-old student who returned from Delhi tested positive. "Contact tracing has been initiated," Dr PT Bhutia, State Health Director-General, Sikkim, said. India had reported its first confirmed case of coronavirus on January 30 after a student who returned from China's Wuhan University had tested positive.

Gujarat recorded 396 coronavirus cases in last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases there to above 13,660, said the state's health department on Saturday. Gujarat's coronavirus death toll climbed to 829, with 27 more people dying of the virus in last 24 hours. The number of COVID-19 patients in Gujarat who have recovered is at 6,169
