Nearly 7k COVID-19 cases recorded in India in last 24 hrs, highest in a day so far

With 6,977 cases in the last 24 hours, coronavirus cases in India have increased to 1,38,845, the government announced on Monday. This marks the biggest one-day jump in cases in India for fourth day in a row. India also recorded 154 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 4,021. Number of active cases stands at 77,103.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that at least four of the 14 candidate vaccines for novel coronavirus in the country may enter the clinical trial stage within four to five months. Harsh Vardhan said this in a social media interaction with BJP National Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP GVL Narasimha Rao.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Himachal Pradesh has risen to 203, out of which 137 cases are active. A total of 59 coronavirus patients have recovered in Himachal Pradesh, while the state has reported three coronavirus deaths till date. As many as 25,238 people are under active surveillance in the state.

Uttar Pradesh Health Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said that the number of active cases of coronavirus in the state has risen to 2,493 after 254 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours. He added that 3,538 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease, while 161 coronavirus deaths have been reported in the state till date.

As many as 3,041 coronavirus cases were reported in Maharashtra in last 24 hours, marking the first instance of the state reporting over 3,000 cases in a single day. With this, the total number of cases in the state rose to 50,231, of which 33,988 are active cases. A total of 14,600 coronavirus patients have been discharged in the state.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Punjab has risen to 2,060, out of which 122 cases are active. As many as 1,898 coronavirus patients have recovered in the state, while 40 succumbed to the disease. A total of 66,142 samples have been tested, out of which 60,114 have tested negative, while results of 3,968 samples are awaited.

Haryana on Sunday reported 53 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases in the state to 1,184 including 16 deaths. A total of 765 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in the state, leaving 403 active cases. Haryana has sent over 97,000 samples for testing and results are awaited for 4,684 samples in the state.

Assam on Sunday reported 20 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases to 378. Six cases were reported from Nalbari, five from Kamrup, four from Hojai, two each from Kamrup Metro and Nagaon and one case was reported from Morigaon. A total of 57 patients have recovered in the state, while four have died due to coronavirus infection.

Rajasthan on Sunday reported 286 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases in the state to 7,028, including 163 deaths. A total of 3,848 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Rajasthan and 3,413 have been discharged from the hospitals, leaving 3,017 active cases. Jaipur is the worst-hit district in the state with 1,815 cases and 78 deaths.

Total number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat crossed 14,000 on Sunday, with over 390 new coronavirus cases recorded in the state in last 24 hours. Gujarat's coronavirus death toll climbed to 858 as 29 more people died of the virus in the last 24 hours. A total of 6,412 coronavirus patients have recovered in the state.

West Bengal recorded 208 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours, taking total number of cases there to 3,667, said the state's Department of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday. West Bengal's coronavirus death toll rose to 200, with three more people dying there in last 24 hours. The number of patients discharged in West Bengal rose to 1,339.
