NewDelhi: India has recorded its biggest one-day rise in coronavirus cases as 49,310 people tested positive in the last 24 hours. The total cases have increased to 12,87,945 and the death toll in the country has risen to 30,601. While the number of people who have been cured/ discharged/ migrated stands at 8,17,209, the number of active cases in India is 4,40,135.
The total number of active coronavirus cases in Delhi has touched 14,554, while the total number of recoveries has reached 1,09,065. As many as 1,415 coronavirus patients recovered in the national capital in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in Delhi stands at 1,27,364 after 1,041 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.
As many as 9,895 coronavirus cases were reported in Maharashtra in last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the state to 3,47,502. The death toll due to coronavirus in Maharashtra has risen to 12,854 after 298 new deaths were reported. A total of 1,94,253 coronavirus patients have recovered in the state so far.
Jharkhand Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Jharkhand Contagious Disease Ordinance under which penalty up to ₹1 lakh and a jail term up to two years can be imposed against violators of COVID-19 preventive measures like not wearing masks in public places and spitting in public. There are 3,648 active COVID-19 cases in Jharkhand, while the death toll stands at 65.
