Record 54,859 COVID-19 recoveries in India in a day, total recoveries now 15L

NewDelhi: India's coronavirus recoveries reached 15,35,743 after a record 54,859 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases has increased to 22,15,074 after a single-day spike of 62,064 cases. Coronavirus death toll in the country has surged to 44,386 and 6,34,945 cases are currently active. As many as 4,77,023 samples were tested on August 9.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra has risen to 5,15,332 after 12,248 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the death toll due to coronavirus in the state surged to 17,757 after 390 new deaths. The total number of patients in the state who have recovered from the virus has risen to 3,51,710.

JM Balamurugan, Principal Secretary to Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore, and four other Raj Bhawan staffers have tested positive for COVID-19. A two-day exercise of rapid antigen testing was carried out at Raj Bhawan, in which 336 people including the Governor, officers, security personnel and staff members were screened for COVID-19. The remaining people, including the Governor, tested negative.

Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang on Sunday took to Twitter to inform that his second coronavirus test report has come positive. Sarang, who is also Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, said he has been under home-isolation since his first test report came negative. He requested people who came in his contact to get COVID-19 test done.
