Antitrust : Commission fines Google $2.7 billion

European Commission has fined Google a record $2.7 billion for abusing its market dominance as a search engine by giving illegal advantage to its shopping comparison service. Google gave prominent placement to its service in search results and demoted those of rivals. However, Google claims its link help users by taking them directly to products and not to different websites.

The company must now end the conduct within 90 days or face penalty payments of upto 5% of the average daily worldwide turnover of Aphabet, Google’s parent company.
