NewDelhi: Director of AIIMS Delhi Randeep Guleria on Wednesday said that it is a possibility that the UK COVID-19 strain could've entered India prior to December. "The reason of concern with this UK strain is that pre-epidemiological data shows it is more infectious," he added. Twenty cases of the UK strain have been confirmed in India so far.
5 new cases of mutant UK COVID-19 strain reported in India, total rises to 25
Five new cases of the mutant UK COVID-19 strain have been reported in India, with the total rising to 25. "Four new cases found by National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune and one new case sequenced in Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi. All 25 persons are in physical isolation at health facilities," Union Ministry of Health said.

India has reported 21,822 new COVID-19 cases and 299 more deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,02,66,674 and the death toll to 1,48,738. As many as 26,139 people recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 98,60,280. The number of active cases in the country stood at 2,57,656.
