NewDelhi: Three more people have tested positive for the new UK COVID-19 strain in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan said on Tuesday. "So far, 4 people have tested positive for the new variant of the virus," Dr Radhakrishnan added. India reported 20 more cases of the UK variant on Tuesday, taking the total to 58.
The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday stated that the total number of people infected with the mutant UK coronavirus strain now stands at 71 in India. This comes after 13 more people tested positive for the mutant strain in the last 24 hours. Notably, India has reported a total of 18,088 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
India has reported 18,088 new COVID-19 cases and 264 more deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,03,74,932 and the death toll to 1,50,114. As many as 21,314 people recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 99,97,272. The number of active cases in the country stood at 2,27,546.
