NewDelhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the pan India rollout of COVID-19 vaccination drive, which is the world's largest vaccination programme. More than 3 lakh health care workers will be vaccinated at a total of 3,006 sites across all states and Union Territories today. Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had termed the vaccination drive as "beginning of the end of coronavirus".
While launching the world's largest COVID-19 vaccination drive in India, PM Narendra Modi said that such a vaccination drive at such a massive scale was never conducted in history. "There are over 100 countries having less than 3 crore population and India is administering vaccination to 3 crore people in the first phase only," PM added.
India reported 15,158 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the country to 1,05,42,841, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated. Further, the death toll rose to 1,52,093 with 175 more deaths. Meanwhile, the number of active cases is 2,11,033, while total discharges stand at 1,01,79,715.
