The Economic Survey 2020-21 has recommended that public spending on healthcare services should be increased from the current 1% to 2.5-3% of GDP. This can decrease the "out-of-pocket expenditures from 65% to 30% of overall healthcare spend", the survey said. It also advised that the health infrastructure must be "agile" to enable India to respond to pandemics.
