11 dead, 36 injured in fire at TN cracker factory; PM announces ₹2L ex-gratia

Chennai: At least 11 people were killed and 36 others injured in a fire at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was saddened by the incident and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for families of the deceased. CM Edappadi Palaniswami also announced ₹3 lakh each for families of the deceased.

Heartfelt condolences to the victims: Rahul 

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his "heartfelt condolences to the victims". He added, "Heart wrenching to think of those still trapped inside. I appeal to the state government to provide immediate rescue, support and relief."
