Australia passes law to make Google, Facebook pay for news

The Australian Parliament on Thursday passed amendments to the News Media Bargaining Code to make technology companies like Google and Facebook pay for news. The law was passed after an agreement between Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In return for the changes, Facebook agreed to lift a ban on Australians accessing and sharing news.
