Kangana Ranaut had invited veteran actor Simi Garewal to the special screening of Thalaivii on Friday. After watching the film, Garewal took to Twitter and shared her thoughts about the film and Kangana’s performance. Thalaivii is a biopic of former Tamil Nadu chief minister, J Jayalalithaa. While Kangana Ranaut played J Jayalalithaa, Arvind Swami essayed the role of M G Ramachandran. Thalaivii had hit cinemas on September 10.
In her tweet, Simi Garewal said that while she does not approve the “radical” comments of the Thalaivii actress, she does support her acting talent. Simi Garewal also revealed that J Jayalalithaa had wanted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to do her biopic, but would have approved Kangana’s performance as well.
“Altho I do not support #KanganaRanaut's radical comments..I do support her acting talent. In #Thailavii she gives it her heart & soul! Jaya-ji wanted Aishwarya to play her..my hunch is JJ wud hv approved of Kangana's portrayal. As for @thearvindswamy he is MGR reincarnate!!" Simi tweeted.

Simi Garewal had interviewed J Jayalalithaa on her chat show ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’ in 1999. In the interview, Jayalalithaa had said that she wouldn't want a film about her life to be made. However, she continued and said. "I think Aishwarya Rai would be very suitable to play me in my younger days. But then to play me as I am now, or I'm likely to be in the future, I think it would be a little difficult."
Replying to a comment on Twitter, Simi Garewal further praised Arvind Swamy in the film. She also shared a complaint she had with the film. “You forget he is Arvind Swamy! You believe he REALLY is MGR! But they left out JJ's childhood..I wish they hadn't. It would have had a stronger impact in the story of Jayalalithaa.. but that's only my opinion,” she wrote.
Thalaivii is a multilingual biographical film about the life of actor-politician Jayalalithaa. It has been shot simultaneously in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Directed by Vijay and written by Rajat Arora (Hindi), the film is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh of Vibri Motion Pictures and Karma Media And Entertainment, respectively. The film chronicles the journey of Jayalalithaa from a 16-year old debutant in Tamil films, who goes on to become a superstar and eventually enter politics.
