Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rains lashed across Kerala on Tuesday claiming three lives. Widespread destruction has been reported from Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Kollam districts in the state.
Two children lost their lives after a house collapsed in Karipur of Kerala's Malappuram district. The house belonged to Muhammed Kutty. The deceased are Rizwana (8) and Rinsana (7), children of Aboobakr Siddique.
The incident occurred at 5am. The wall adjacent to the house collapsed destroying a part of the house. The children were fast asleep inside. Though rushed to the Medical College Hospital, they could not be saved.
The National Highway passing through Kondotty township area has reported waterlogging. Meanwhile, a road collapsed near Thiruvali Chelithodu bridge. Aluva Manappuram, the region surrounding Aluva Shiva Temple in Ernakulam district, was completely submerged in water.
A landslide was reported near Idamalayar Vaishali cave in Idukki. Several adivasi colonies in Thalumkandam Pongumchuvadu region were isolated. Heavy rain has been reported from Thrissur district. The stream near Pariyaram in Chalakkudy is overflowing. People living on the riverbanks have been warned.
