Orange alert in Idukki dam; Kakki dam to open at 11 am

Idukki: An orange alert has been sounded in Idukki dam as the water level rose to 2396.86 feet. The orange alert was issued by 7 am on Monday. If the water level rises atleast by one foot, a red alert will be sounded. Currently, the water level in Idukki dam is at 2396.96 feet.

The KSEB authorities informed that they are operating all five generators and producing maximum electricity. As power production is progressing according to the water flow into the dam, the public need not panic, they added.

The maximum storage capacity in Idukki dam is 2403 feet. Though rain receded in Idukki, the water level keeps rising in the dam. Kallar dam has already been opened. Kakki dam will be opened by 11 am as heavy rainfall continues in its catchment areas. Current water level in the dam is at 983.5 feet. Its maximum storage capacity is 986.33 feet.

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting will be convened under the leadership of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday at 10 in the morning. The chief minister will review the rain havoc in the state. Health minister Veena George said that there is no need to panic and the rain has receded.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that the rainfall is likely at isolated places in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Monday morning.
