‘Nayattu’ among shortlisted movies for India's official entry to Oscar

Kolkata: Jury screening is progressing here under the Film Federation of India to select India's official entry for Oscar nominations. Director Shaji N Karun is the jury chairman.

'Nayattu' directed by Martin Prakkat has been shortlisted among the entries from Malayalam. Yogi Babu starrer Tamil movie 'Mandela', Vidya Balan starrer Hindi film 'Sherni', Uddham Singh's biopic 'Sardar Uddham', Assamese movie 'Bridge' and Gujarati film'Chellow Show' are the other films in the shortlist.

The 15-member jury will choose and nominate one among the 14 movies shortlisted for India's official entry to Academy Awards which will be held in March 2022. The movie will be considered for Oscar award only if it is included in the nomination list.

The survival drama 'Nayattu' starring Nimisha Sajayan, Kunchacko Boban and Joju George had grabbed attentionat in pan-India level. Shahi Kabir penned the movie's screenplay while Shyju Khalid was the cinematographer.

Lijo Jose Pellissery's 'Jallikettu' was the last movie that became the official entry for the Academy Awards from India. But the movie could not enter into the nomination list of Oscar. The previous official entries of India were Gully Boy (2019), Village Rock Star (2018), Newton (2017) and Visaranai (2016).
