Thiruvananthapuram: The Left Democratic Front Government in Kerala has decided to welcome the year 2022 by giving jobs to almost 10,000 people. As part of making this drive successful, a job fair will be conducted in all districts from December 15 to 18 under the aegis of the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission.

The employers of international and national repute will be brought to Kerala for these job fairs. The government signed a memorandum of understanding with the international job platform "Monster" and the Confederation of Indian Industries. An understanding would be soon reached with platforms like "Freelance" soon.

Such job fairs were planned after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed desire to give jobs to a minimum of 10,000 people at first and earn the confidence of the people, before implementing the mega scheme offering 20 lakh jobs within five years.

The State Government would take a loan from the KIIFBI for Rs 2,000 crore and from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank for Rs 1,500 crore for putting in place basic infrastructure for conducting various skill development programmes.

The Chief Minister reportedly asked for the conduct of job fairs first after many from the CPM itself criticised the propriety of using government funds for conducting skill development programmes, an exercise which is supposed to be done by the corporates. The Planning Board has also demanded change in the structure of the scheme which is currently envisaged.
