China has opened a new 409 km toll free expressway, linking Lhasa and Nyingchi. Lhasa and Nyingchi with Nyingchi being close to Arunachal Pradesh border- are major cities and tourist attractions in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
The Express way cuts Lhasa-Nyingchi travel time from 8 hours to 5 hours, at a speed of 80km/hr, and heavy trucks are temporarily banned fron using the expressway. It cost $5.8 billion to construct it. The India-China border, covering the 3,488 km-long Line Actual Control (LAC), is disputed.
